‘The Maze Runner 3’ Movie News, Release Date: Actor Dylan O’Brien Sustains Severe Injuries during Filming
Production of "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" had to be temporarily deferred following an accident that Dylan O'Brien got into during the filming of the movie.
O'Brien plays the role of the lead character in "The Maze Runner" series, Thomas.
An article on Den of Geek! reported that O'Brien was filming a stunt for the third installation of the movie in Vancouver, Canada when he sustained serious injuries, albeit not life-threatening.
According to TMZ, something went wrong while shooting a scene in the movie, so the actor was run over by a car and had multiple bone fractures. In a tweet, however, this was refuted by cast member Chris Sheffield who said: "Make sure y'all don't believe everything you hear re &TMZ."
"'Maze Runner' family stands strong," he added.
In an official statement, 20th Century Fox confirmed the incident and said that the actor was immediately brought to a local hospital to be treated.
"Dylan O'Brien was injured yesterday while filming 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' in Vancouver, Canada. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery," stated 20th Century Fox.
In a separate statement, "The Maze Runner" author James Dashner clarified that the production of the movie was only postponed but not cancelled, and that they will pick up again as soon as Dylan recovers.
Meanwhile, film director Wes Ball described O'Brien as "one tough cookie" and reported that the actor may recover in a few weeks.
"After a few weeks of rest and recovery he'll be back up and running to finish our adventure together," he said.
"The Maze Runner 3" is slated for release on February 17, 2017.
