As 2016 starts off, families and group of friends are set to see a wrestling film inspired by true life events, Warren Sonoda's action crime biopic "The Masked Saint."

Ridgerock Entertainment Group and P23 Entertainment Inc. announced that "The Masked Saint will hit theaters in January 2016, according to a press release in The Masked Saint official website. In a statement, Ridgerock Entertainment Group Vice President Gary Granstaff said that they were extremely excited to be releasing "The Masked Saint" through Ridgerock Faith.

Granstaff also mentioned that the film had something everyone could enjoy. The vice president added that it was an action-packed movie, but it also had a very heartfelt and compelling storyline with some incredible performances. For Granstaff, they thought audiences were going to love the film.

Inspired by true events, Sonoda's "The Masked Saint" stands as the first of several faith-based films that will be produced by Ridgerock Entertainment Group's recently formed "Ridgerock Faith" division.

Based on Chris Whaley's highly popular book of the same name, "The Masked Saint" follows the journey of a former professional wrestler Chris Samuels, who retires from the ring to settle down as a small town pastor. With his calling, Samuels had to moonlight as a masked vigilant fighting the injustice and conceal himself from the police.

Promotional material for the film has also been released for the book version based on "The Masked Saint," as per 411Mania. According to the publication, the film is set be the last film role for the late WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper.

Aside from Piper, the film stars Jeff Jarrett, Joan Gregson, Scott Nichol, Patrick McKenna, Mykel Shanneon Jenkins, James Preston Rogers, Diahann Carroll, T.J. McGibbon, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Brett Granstaff as Samuels, The Masked Saint.

With Sonoda at the helm of the film, Scott Crowell is on board for the film's screenplay. "The Masked Saint" is co-produced by Peter Hannoush, Joe Sisto, and David Anselmo, among others.

Sonoda's "The Masked Saint" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Jan. 8, 2016.
