‘The Lego Movie 2’ Release Date, Spoilers, Cast News: Chris Pratt Expected to Reprise Role as Emmett Brickowski

New reports are claiming that Warner Bros. is developing a second 'Lego' movie and announced its release date for May 26, 2018.

The sequel will be directed by Chris McKay, who was the animation-co director for the first movie. The cast is not yet finalized, but news has revealed that Chris Pratt is expected to reprise his role as the voice of construction worker Emmett Brickowski.

In addition, writer Phil Lord and director Christopher Miller discussed about adding female characters. "It's important to us that the movie plays broadly and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men," Lord said.

The director pointed out the popularity of animated movies with female leads such as 'Frozen'.

"I don't want to give spoilers but there will be more female characters and more female stuff," added Miller in an interview with BBC.

Before the sequel comes out, two spinoffs are set to be released. First is 'Ninjago' based on the company's Ninja themed toys will open in theaters on Sept. 23, 2016. On a side note, the series has been popular on Cartoon Network since 2011.

Meanwhile, 'Lego the Batman Movie' will be released on Feb. 10, 2017. The character became a fan popular in the first flick and will be a funnier version of the superhero.

"Rest assured that every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged. There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there. There are 40 versions of his origin story alone," Miller said according to Empire.

Miller assured that the two films will have their own voices, but the characters will co-exist in the original Lego movie universe.

On that note, the first film has already been released on DVD and Blu-ray.
