The Legend of Hercules Star Kellan Lutz Studied 'The Passion of the Christ' to Prepare for His Role as the Greek Hero

Breathecast attended The Legend of Hercules premiere in New York City last night and got the inside scoop on how actor Kellan Lutz prepped for his role as the legendary character of Greek mythology, Hercules.

Temperatures dropped to single digits as celebrities gathered into the Crosby Hotel for a private screening of the film. Lutz and director Renny Harlin opened up the night welcoming their guests and thanking everyone in attendance for braving the weather.

Harlin warmly told the crowd they were happy to see everyone because it was the first time they were screening the film with an audience and after just six short months of shooting they are very happy with the outcome. Lutz jokingly added his backside is stilled bruised from the vigorous training for his scenes of horseback riding.

On a more serious note, the fashion model/actor Lutz, spoke with Breathecast about how he mentally prepared for such a role.

"I'm a man of faith, there's a scene in the middle of the movie that's the crucifixion, where I ask my father Zeus for help. So I would just religiously watch the 'Passion of the Christ,' and I'd use that," he said.

The 3D movie itself had some similarities in comparison to the account of the Christ child; from the Immaculate Conception, to the public lashing of the hero by his own people, but the moment that closely resembled the Biblical account the most is when Hercules could not bare the torture anymore and cries out to Zeus as Jesus did to the Father.

The action scenes in the film were shot with visuals and a style similar to those of the movies 300 and Troy. In attendance were "Fast & Furious" star Michelle Rodriguez, and Christian activist and actor Stephen Baldwin.
