‘The Leftovers' Season 2 Finale Spoilers: The Fate Of Kevin
It's not a secret that "The Leftovers" Season 2 might also have been the last. But if there's one event that makes us feel better, it's the redeeming ending to the melancholic apocalyptic series, proving that there is light even in the darkest of times.
Even everyone's treasured character, Kevin (Justin Theroux), who had been facing a dismal fate since the beginning of the story, was given a hint of hope during the season's ultimate episode, reports International Business Times.
As many fans might remember, Kevin was coerced by John (Kevin Caroll) to undergo fingerprint testing. The results of which identified him as the suspect behind Evie's disappearance.
While Ken was telling John that Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) did not die but chose to leave her parents because she doesn't love them that much, John remains aggregated towards Kevin, and resolves to sending a bullet towards him.
During the "The Leftovers" Season 2 finale, Kevin finds himself in the bathroom of the familiar Lynchian Limbo Hotel. Of course, he knows what to do, reports Hidden Remote.
Going through the hotel's costumes, Kevin favors his former chief's uniform over the international assassin suit, thinking that it was the best representation of himself. He then comes across the man he saw on the bridge in Episode 8.
The man requests him to render a song, in order for him to go back to his life. The unwilling Kevin obliges and performs "Homeward Bound," which reminded him of the loving moments he shared with his family during the times they were happy. In the end, he realized that he has so much to live for.
The next thing Kevin knows, he is back to reality. He heads to town, coming across chaos and destruction brought about by the Guilty Remnant.
Soon the very weak Kevin encounters John once again, but this time, John already had a change of heart.
"I killed you," said the enlightened John with a hint of regret. John treats Kevin and the two men walked home. John further showed his gentle side when he expressed his fear that his family may not be present at his home. Kevin tells John that he is welcome in Kevin's house.
The men bid each other goodbye as they approach their respective porches. The earthquakes for one last time, but at the end of the movement, Kevin finds Mary, Matt, Tommy, Laurie, Nora, Jill, and Lily all waiting for him.
