‘The Interview’ Online Release News: DISH Network Makes Film Available

DISH Network announced that 'The Interview' is now available via pay-per-view option. DISH subscribers can now rent the controversial film from Sony Entertainment for $5.99 in high definition and standard definition formats.

Aside from DISH, 'The Interview' is now available on iTunes. Apple users can rent the film for $5.99 and purchase it for &14.99. The company's spokesman Tom Neumayr announced the addition of the movie.

"We're pleased to offer 'The Interview' for rental or purchase on the iTunes Store," Neumayr said.

Apple was the last tech company to feature 'The Interview'. In December, the film was released on Google Inc's YouTube and Google Play and earned $15 million in total sales and rentals. This made 'The Interview' Sony's top grossing online film of all time.

Adding to the number of online sales is Microsoft's Xbox game console. Microsoft general counsel Brad Smith revealed that the company supports Sony in their fight for freedom against cyber attacks. Smith emphasized that Americans have the right to choose the movies they would like to watch.

As a response to the support of Google and Microsoft, Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton thanked the big companies.

"I want to thank Google and Microsoft for helping make this a reality. This release represents our commitment to our filmmakers and free speech. While we couldn't have predicted the road this movie traveled to get to this moment, I'm proud our fight was not for nothing and that cyber criminals were not able to silence us," Lynton said.

The film company wants to regain the $44 million spent for the production of 'The Interview' and $30 to $40 million costs of marketing tools.

'The Interview' was rejected by large cinemas due to the terrorist threats that the movie received via the Sony hack. It was shown in 331 independent theatres and earned $1 million in box office sales on Christmas Day. As of this time, Sony has not revealed the official total sales of the movie in cinemas and online.

The controversial film is about two journalists played by James Franco and Seth Rogen who were hired by the CIA to put down North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un.

As controversial as it may seem, 'The Interview' continues to sell and fans can watch it on the website See 'The Interview'  at the price of $5.99.
