'The Huntsman' New Cast News: 'Interstellar' Actress Jessica Chastain Tapped for Role
The prequel to Bill Condon's Snow White and the Huntsman is finally getting underway with most of the production team assembled. Now that the roster for the cast is making headlines, any news about new additions is destined to make headlines. On that note, and on Tuesday, it was announced that Jessica Chastain has joined the cast.
Her role on the film has not been determined yet. Chastain had a busy year last year as she stared in films The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Miss Julie, Interstellar and A Most Violent Year. This year looks to be just as busy as she is currently working on The Martian for Ridley Scott, and Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak, which will release in the fall of this year.
Emily Blunt was rumored to star in the film for weeks and that has been officially confirmed as well as Chastain's role. Returning to the film are Chris Hemsworth as Eric, The Huntsman, Charlize Theron as Ravenna and Nick Frost as Nion, one of the dwarves.
The prequel was set to film shortly after the release of the first film in 2012, but it had problems getting on its feet since the first film was not as successful as anticipated. However, The Huntsman is looking to be better as Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will direct, his first time doing so. Nicolas-Troyan did the visual effects for the first film and received an Oscar nod for his work.
The film takes place long before Ravenna (Theron) comes into contact with Snow White. According to Slash Film, Eric (Hemsworth) will set out in search for the infamous magic mirror that has been stolen. The Huntsman is scheduled to open on April 22, 2016.
