'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1' Review, Premiere Date: Darkest and Most Mature Film in Series to Date?

According to a new report, 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1', will be the darkest and the grittiest of the four-part series based on the best-selling author Suzanne Collins. The latest installment in the film series premieres in theaters, Friday, November 21.

The book introduced a battle-to-the-death scenario between 12 teenagers, who were considered as tributes by their respective district. Director Gary Ross applied a shaky, handheld, pseudo-documentary camera technique to depict the horror in the film without showing it in graphic detail, according to The Week.

Fans of the franchise can recall that 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' repeated the first movie's narrative, in which 12 new tributes must duel to their death, with the addition of the previous games' victors.

However, 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1' will showcase things in a darker and grim fashion, according to BuzzFeed.

Viewers will find Katniss Evergreen, who is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, at the forefront of the rebellion in District 13. Unlike the previous installments of 'The Hunger Games', the movie won't be about surviving.

In the final trailer of 'Mockingjay, Part 1', which debuted on Oct. 29, Katniss' character is braver and fiercer than ever, E! Online reported. After her district was bombed to destruction, Katniss charges forward, not daunted by President Snow's threats. Lawrence's character, however, is reluctant to be the Mockingjay, which is the symbol of rebellion.

In an interview with SlashFilms, Lawrence confessed her challenges portraying Katniss.

"I find it frustrating 'cause I want her to be the hero," Katniss said, "I want her to be the, you know, 'Of course you're gonna do this, of course you want to lead the rebellion. Tell them that you'll be the Mockingjay, no doubts.' But I'm playing a real girl that is stuck."

"The only thing that she wants, and what makes her a true hero, is she wants as little death as possible. She doesn't want a war to get revenge. She wants to fix the situation and I think the cruelty of the Capitol gets to a place where you can't not do something, you know? You have to act."

While Katniss joins the rebel forces, Peeta, who is played by Josh Hutcherson, and Johanna, who is acted out by Jena Malone, are held captive in the Capitol. At the end of 'Catching Fire', Katniss felt infuriated when she couldn't save Peeta and even lost her district, The Daily Beast reported.

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1' is the most matured and thematically ambitious installment of the Hunger Game series so far, according to BuzzFeed. The film showcases how media is used to signal heroes and villains and how that affects people, even ones that should know better.
