'The Good Wife' Spinoff Rumors, News: Spinoff Centers On Diane Lockhart And Lucca Quinn?

The follow-up of the recently concluded television series "The Good Wife" will center on Diane Lockhart, portrayed by Tony Award-winning actress Christine Baranski. The news was confirmed recently by CBS Corporation Chairman Leslie Moonves herself.

Expected to air in 2017, the spinoff will provide a continuation for the open-ended finale of the original series.

According to USA Today, the upcoming season will feature Lockhart as she focuses on her Chicago law firm, although it will be told in the perspective of her goddaughter and legal colleague whose name has yet to be disclosed.

The last season ended with Lockhart slapping Alicia Florrick on the face. It can be remembered that throughout the entire series, both characters have had a complicated relationship, going from being associates to friends to enemies to nothing.

It has also been confirmed that apart from Lockhart, Lucca Quinn will also take the lead role in the next season. Her character, played by British actress Cush Jumbo, was introduced in the previous season as a young lawyer.

While little has been disclosed about the follow-up season, some fans speculate that the next installment of the series will take a new direction.

CBS recently confirmed that "The Good Wife" creators Robert and Michelle King will co-write the first episode of the spinoff, while Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer and Brooke Kennedy have signed up as the executive producers.

The final episode of "The Good Wife" season 7 aired on May 8.

According to reports, the spinoff will be made exclusively available online on CBS' All-Access streaming app and will include 10 to 13 episodes.
