BBC has eventually released the teaser trailer of the much-anticipated 'Game Changer,' a dramatized documentary on the controversy surrounding Rockstar Games popular 'Grand Theft Auto' series, especially the third installment of the game franchise. A two-part movie series, the first part of 'Game Changer' will be released in the UK on Sept. 15, while the second part is slated for release next year in the UK.
IB Times reports that Rockstar Games had in March about the company's non-involvement in the production of the 90-minute documentary. The documentary film features Daniel Radcliffe in the role of Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser and Bill Paxton of 'Aliens,' 'Twister,' and 'Titanic' as the American lawyer Jack Thompson.
The film shows Houser taking charge as the leading innovator of the video game industry, while Thompson campaigns untiringly against the teachings of violence and decadence pass on to players in the game. Citing the BBC, Neowin reports that 'Grand Theft Auto' is now being dubbed as the "most extraordinary creative and controversial success stories of our time."
Owen Harris, who is riding on the success of the popular UK dramas 'Misfits' and 'Black Mirror,' directs the movie. The Hollywood Reporter quotes the BBC saying that the script of the documentary film is based on James Wood's script involving "court documents and interviews" with people associated with the case.
Apparently, the BBC is moving ahead with its move to broadcast 'The Game Changers' show, in spite of Rockstar's legal threat. The show will be telecast on BBC Two in the UK at 9:00 p.m. on Sept. 15. As of now, it is not know whether or not the show will go live on the BBC's international services.
In a recent press release, the BBC has admitted that the movie "has not been authorized by the producers of Grand Theft Auto".
