'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' News: Revival Series To Be Produced By Will Smith
A new project has just been inducted into Hollywood's long list of revivals and spin-offs of franchises from the 1990's.
According to TV Line, 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' is in current early production of a revival series, with the show's star, Will Smith, at the forefront as producer.
This trend of bringing back old television shows has seemed to spiral out of control from current series such as 'Girl Meets World,' or the upcoming 'X-Files' revival series. If success follows these projects then the public can only expect more to move forward.
"According to multiple sources, Smith's production shingle, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a present-day family comedy that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of Fresh Prince. (An official longline is still being hammered out,)" writes TV Line.
There is still no world on if the series plans on bringing back its original actors, or spin-off a whole new story. Besides Smith as executive producer, there are no other names attached to the project. Smith would also be producing along his Overbrook partners such as James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
"At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said the network was not involved with the project, but that he would "be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it," cites TV Line.
There is currently no word on a premiere date for the revival series.
