'The Flash' Season 2 Spoilers: Will Barry Get a New Love Interest in Upcoming New Episodes?

In 'The Flash' Season 1, fans briefly saw Barrey Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West (Candice Patton) confessing their love for each other and also sharing a kiss. However, that was a part of the parallel universe and in reality; they did not share a romantic relation. When the show returns for its second season on The CW this fall, Barry will be getting a new love interest.

IB Times quotes a report in TV Line that states currently the CW is casting a very important recurring role for 'The Flash' Season 2. The network has described the character as "a spunky, fun, funny" romantic interest for the show's superhero bachelor.

According to the network, the new character named Wendy will be a cop in the Central City police department. The casting call reportedly compares Barry's new love interest to another character from the DC Comics' television universe that should make fans excited - Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) from 'Arrow,' says TV Line.

In 'The Flash' Season 1 finale, fans saw Barry and Iris admit their feelings for one another, but later Iris reunites with Eddie (Rick Cosnett) and decided to get engaged to her detective boyfriend. Nevertheless, Eddie shot himself during Barr's climactic altercation with Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanaugh) later in the episode. He realized that since he was an ancestor of Thawne, his death would mean that the villain would never have existed.

In theory, although Iris is now free to connect with Barry, show executive producer Andrew Kreisberg earlier told Entertainment Weekly that the consequence of Eddie's untimely death will prove to be a deterrent for all romantic urges of the pair.

Kreisberg told the website, "Iris has been with Eddie for a long time and they were living together. [Eddie] didn't just die, he died to save her. Obviously, Iris is going to be dealing with that," adding, "Barry is going to be dealing with the fact that all Barry has ever wanted to do is protect Iris, and in the end it was Eddie who got to do it."

Now, it remains to be seen whether a love triangle will develop between Barry, Iris, and Wendy.
