'The Flash' News: CW To Sync With DC Comics Universe and Tackle Time Travel
In 'The Flash' set of DC Comics, time travel is a huge reoccurring theme and the CW show plans to take a stab at it in coming episodes.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg speaks with EW on some trouble Barry Allen will experience when dealing with time travel and the general mechanics of the show.
"There's an episode coming up where there is inadvertent connection to the Speed Force that results in probably our funniest hour as well as our darkest hour as the dangers of time travel come to light," Andrew Kreisberg says, "It's a mashup between Back to the Future and Terminator-the good version of time travel and the bad version of time travel."
Grant Gustin, actor who plays The Flash, commented on the episode also closely resembling the movie, 'Groundhog's Day'.
"It's a complete accident the first time [he time travels]," Grant Gustin says, "It's really confusing because now we're playing with timelines and we're having to shoot things a couple different ways. It's like a Groundhog Day-type element. It's really funny and really exciting."
He continues on to say that his character's initial reaction will be very wary and "freaked out" but he eventually realizes the benefits
"He realizes, 'Holy s**t, this an opportunity to change things with my family's past,'" Gustin says, "He doesn't know yet to maybe not do that, but that's where Barry's at when he realizes what he's just learned that he can do, that he can maybe save his mom."
Alot of television shows tend to stray away from time travel type of content as they fear it will mess with the show's continuity. If shows ever do partake in it, it's usually farther down the line when characters and storylines are all fully developed.
Kreisberg comments that time travel "has massive repercussions for the show. After that episode, things are never going to be the same on The Flash."
