Developed by Nippon Ichi Software, best known for the 'Disgaea' series, a new PS Vita game, 'The Firefly's Diary', is set to be released in February 2015.

The digital and physical formats will be released on Feb. 24, 2015 in North America, while a digital-only version will be available in Europe on the next day, Publisher NIS America announced.

The standard edition of the game costs $20, while players can buy the limited edition for $30, with pre-orders directly from NIS America. The limited edition includes the game, a collector's box, softcover artbook and the original soundtrack CD. European pricing has not been announced yet.

The game, 'The Firefly's Diary', also known as 'Hotaru no Nikki' in Japan, is set on December 31, in the year 9999. The game revolves around Mion who wakes up with amnesia, Gematsu presented the plot on their website. Mion finds herself within dark ruins covered in rubble, and two fireflies, one of light and the other of darkness, guide the young girl outside of the ruins.

In the action puzzle game, players use the Vita's touchscreen and rear touch pad to interact in the game. It presents two worlds: world of light and world of shadow. In the world of light, the player controls the firefly, which affects Mion's actions while in the world of shadow, a shadow firefly enables the player to remove objects on the game stage from behind the shadows.

The game ends if Mion is caught by enemies which lurk within the shadows, or if she is caught in a trap. Mion is unable to physically attack enemies, but the player can manipulate the environment to destroy them, such as dropping boulders. The player can switch between two worlds in order to clear the stages.

Famitsu, a Japanese video game magazine, gave the game a review rating of 30/40. The game was given a rating of CERO D (17+) in Japan.
