'The Expendables 3' Film Leaked to Watch Online: Suspects Arrested In U.K.
The individuals suspected of leaking a copy of the 'The Expendables 3' film online have been arrested in the UK by anti-piracy officials.
A copy of 'The Expendables 3' was uploaded on websites in July several weeks before the film had its official theatrical release. Due to this, Lionsgate studio ended up losing millions in revenue and angered many of the stars and staff of the film, including the film's writer and star Sylvester Stallone.
The accomplices who were allegedly responsible for the act of piracy have finally been arrested in England, a 33-year-old from West Yorkshire and a 36-year old from Merseyside.
The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit of England alleged that the pair managed to steal the film by hacking a cloud-based system.
The unit's Detective Chief Inspector Danny Medlycott condemned the act, especially after Lionsgate announced the theft's financial impact on their film's success.
"The public need to be aware that piracy is not a victimless crime," he said, "You are also putting hard-working people's livelihoods at risk."
Stallone expressed his disappointment over the leak and talked about the "ripple effect," during an interview with Sky News.
"Studios will start to lose confidence and won't put big big numbers in there and a lot of people will lose their jobs," he said.
Kellan Lutz also talked about the leak in a phone interview with MTV.
He shared that the cast and crew were looking forward to their appearance at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con, when they suddenly received news about the leak.
"At the end of the day, one little thing can just ruin the box office opening of your film," Lutz said. He explained that due to the poor box office showing, there were less chances that a fourth film will follow.
'The Expendables 3' is the third film in 'The Expendables' franchise, following the release of the first two films in 2010 and 2012. The film was directed by Patrick Hughes and stars Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Kelsey Grammer, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Dolph Lundgren, Kellan Lutz and more.
