'The Daily Show' Cast News, Rumors: Samantha Bee Leaves Series & Comedy Central
Since his announcement to resign as hot of The Daily Show last month, Jon Stewart and the show's crew are working tirelessly to find a replacement. Earlier, fans of the show thought that fellow cast member Samantha Bee would take on the role.
However, in an announcement released by TBS, Samantha Bee will be leaving Comedy Central and The Daily Show in order to host and produce a TBS show alongside husband and former Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones.
TBS Vice President Brett Weitz said, "Like her fans around the country, we absolutely adore everything about Sam, from her straight-faced sarcasm and ruthless wit to her uncanny ability to mine comedy gold from just about any awkward situation. Watching Sam's work for years, we knew that her distinctive humor and talent belong at the front of her own show."
The show Bee and Jones are working on is still in early production. However, it has been stated that the show will be 10-episode comedy of the family's vacation stories starting with a vacation in Florida. Bee will also be hosting her own show on TBS. Details on that show have not yet been released and she and the network are still working out the details.
According to Deadline, Bee has been a classic to Comedy Central ever since she joined The Daily Show's "Best F**king New Team" in 2003. Since her correspondence with Jason Jones, the two became inseparable as both a comedy pair and a romantic interest. Bee is currently working on a middle-grade novel for Farrar Straus Giroux and will star in a comedy called Sisters alongside Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler. The film is set to release in theaters for Christmas 2015.
