'The Daily Show' News: Jon Stewart Officially Leaving Popular Comedy Central Program
It's official! Famous anchor Jon Stewart for 'The Daily Show' is leaving although still no apparent reason has been announced. In one episode reportedly shooting today, Stewart told the audience that he will be leaving the show. After the announcement, several have already reacted negatively toward Stewart's decision.
In a statement released by Comedy Central which manages the show, the network announced that Stewart will stay on as the anchor for the rest of 2015. "For the better part of the last two decades, we have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central said in a statement.
"Jon will remain at the helm of the Daily Show until later this year. He is a comic genius, generous with his time and talent, and will always be a part of the Comedy Central family," the statement announced confirming that Stewart will only be staying until the end of the year.
The statement was released via Twitter where fans also commented and praised Stewart for his good work. One Twitter post said, "NOOOOOO Jon Stewart!! We shall tie you to that chair until they can find someone who can fill your shoes. #bigshoestofill," one wrote.
Meanwhile, the network seems to be in agreement with the people as the statement continued saying, "His comedic brilliance is second to none. Jon has been at the heart of Comedy Central, championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry, in front of and behind the camera," the statement said.
The network also described Stewart's leaving as "enduring the years to come" without the iconic anchor that many fans indeed loved. "Through his unique voice and vision, The Daily Show has become a cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come," the statement added.
