'The Conjuring 2' Release Date: 'The Enfield Poltergeist' Premiere Scheduled for June 2016

Warner Bros. is looking to reap the same summer success as the first film, or even more, with the release of 'The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist', which was released in 2013. The studio has just announced that it will be releasing 'The Conjuring 2', directed by James Wan, on June 10, 2016.

When 'The Conjuring' was released on July 19, 2013, it surprised many, who believed that the fall is the appropriate time to release a horror flick, as it helps to gain from the Halloween hype. The Hollywood Reporter says that the $20 million budget film was a huge box-office success despite being released "off-season," and it grossed $318 million. In fact, 'The Conjuring' turned out to be one of the must-see movies of that summer.

Variety reports that even the recent spinoff titled 'Annabelle' managed to earn $206.9 million from worldwide box office since it opened on Oct. 3.

The sequel will be titled 'The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist'. According to Deadline, Warner Bros.' original plan was not to repeat the summer release of the first film. Earlier, it was said to release on Oct. 23, 2015, but the producers decided to postpone the date for a horror film from New Line, which is yet to be named.

Till date, the producers have not revealed any details regarding the 'Enfield Poltergeist' plot. Nevertheless, 'The Conjuring' original cast members Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles in the movie as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. The two characters are based on a real-life couple by the same name who probed into paranormal activities throughout the country.

It is reported that one of their most disturbing cases handled by the due occurred at a house in Enfield, England, in the 1970s. A report by Daily Mail says that Peggy Hodgson, mother of four, called the police after her children reported seeing furniture flying about violently in the house on its own. As the police were of little help, she turned to the Warrens, who detected demonic activity and possession. They also documented several other ghostly incidents.
