'The Circle' Cast News: Emma Watson Set to Star in Upcoming Movie

Emma Watson will be starring alongside Tom Hanks in James Ponsoldt's feature film adaptation of Dave Egger's novel, The Circle.

Shooting for the movie will begin in September in California. Ponsoldt, who also did work on The Spectacular Now, is directing the film from his own script.

The film is being produced by Hanks, as well as Gary Goetzman for Playtone, Anthony Bregman for Likely Story and Ponsoldt.

The film will be presented by Image Nation in association with Parkes MacDonald Productions.

IM Global is dealing with international sales of the film, while United States right for the film are being represented by UTA Independent Film Group and CAA, jointly.

Alicia Vikander was attached to star in The Circle when it was being sold at Cannes, but left the project.

Watson will be playing the role of an employee hired for a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which connect users' personal emails, social media accounts, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system.

This results in an online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.

The novel is a contemporary thriller about the perils of life in an age where personal data can be collected, sifted, monetized and used for surveillance, making privacy and obsolete concept.

Since finishing Harry Potter, Watson has starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, and Noah, and she is also set to play the lead role in the live action Beauty and the Beast for Disney.

She is represented by WME and Untitled in the United States, and Markham, Froggatt and Irwin in the United Kingdom.
