'The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth' Blocked From Apple's App Store? The Reason Is 'Questionable Religious Content?'
The randomly generated action RPG shooter indie game "The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth" has been taken out from the Apple App Store for allegedly portraying violence against children.
According to Breitbart, Apple has been strict with these type of issues on the list of their games. They usually take some apps off of their list if ever it might involve some unwanted controversial social issue.
The game was also rejected from the Nintendo 3DS store before because of the different reason - "questionable religious content." Also according to the site, the game was "loosely" based on the story of Abraham when he was asked by God to sacrifice his only son as a test of loyalty.
Apple and Nintendo may have a point in doing this. In the first place, when you look at the game, its a bit twisted and disturbing considering that it was based on a Bible story.
While Apple does not have problems with the graphics, it did have problems with the idea of the game where a child needed to struggle for an escape from a hazardous environment where he could die easily anytime.
The game was developed by McMillen and Florian Himsl and was originally released in 2012 as an Adobe Flash App. It was later on released on November 4, 2014 for Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.
Surprisingly, the had very high scores from game reviewers. GameRankings ranked it 90.20% for PC and 89.42% for PlayStation4; Metacritic scored it 88/100 for PC and 86/100 for PlayStation4 while Destructoid gave it 10/10.
