The Beatles Debuts Streaming Free on Christmas Eve on All Major Services
The Beatles just gave the world the best Christmas gift EVER! The legendary musical rock band will finally have their works available on nine major music streaming sites.
Starting December 24, 12:01 a.m. (their local time), 13 Beatles remastered albums and four compilation albums will be available to stream on Spotify for free users and also for its 20 million paying subscribers. The songs will also be available on Google Play, Amazon Prime, Slacker, Tidal, Groove, Rhapsody, Deezer and of course Apple Music, which has 15 million users.
The spokesman for the British Phonographic Industry, Gennaro Castaldo, said that this is a huge turning point in the music industry as this would make streaming's journey towards mainstream nearly complete. He also said that the bands availability on the nine streaming sites would boost up their subscribers world-wide.
"An increasing number of music consumers are switching to streaming for their day to day needs, while still also buying and collecting their favorite artists on vinyl and CD," he said according to The Guardian. "So the addition of such iconic albums can only accelerate the dramatic growth of this digital platform," he added.
More than a million people are already followers of the official Beatles Spotify profile. Also, the band already has 350,000 monthly listeners on that channel. "Ain't She Sweet," has been streamed 5.7 million times and counting. How much more if they release all their songs? Justin Bieber is currently the most listened artist on Spotify with 31.7 million monthly listeners. Not to compare the two, but Bieber only has one generation to support him while the Beatles have touched the hearts of every generation since the day they started; not to mention, all Bieber fans are most likely Beatles fans. So how many listeners per month can they garner?
