'The Americans' Season 3 Release Date, Promo Trailer: FX Launches Video for Upcoming Series Installment
After going through a series of professional highs and personal lows, it looks as though all-American suburban parents (and secret Soviet spies) Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, are in for a major shake-up when the hit FX show 'The Americans' returns for its third season.
The season three trailer of 'The Americans' is out ahead of its Jan. 28 return date, and it looks like the lives of the Jennings couple has gotten a bit more complex.
The minute-long teaser, which was obtained by Yahoo! TV and was aired after the 'Sons of Anarchy' finale Tuesday night, showed the characters after the death of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in 1982, which will undoubtedly has major ramifications for the country's espionage agents at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, it was also during that year when 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' was released in theaters and the trailer shows their daughter Paige, trying to sneak in to watch a R-rated movie for the first time.
Additionally, there is a conflict brewing in the Jenning's household after it was revealed during the second season's finale that the Center wants to turn Paige into a spy.
The trailer also revealed that FBI agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) looks as though he still has feelings for Nina Sergeevna (Annet Mahendru), everyone's favorite triple agent who was sent to Moscow at the end of last season, facing an ominous fate because of treason charges.
Joining the cast this season is Frank Langella as Philip and Elizabeth's new handler, who was shown briefly in the trailer. The whole promo is scored to a haunting new version of The Police chestnut, "Every Breath You Take," which lends it more of that early '80s flavor.
'The Americans' is included in AFI's list of the best TV shows on the air this year, which makes it the second time that the FX show has made it on the list, according to Yahoo! TV.
'The Americans' premieres Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 pm on FX.
