‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' Release Date, Cast News: Movie Sequel Set For 2016 Premiere

Following the success of the recent 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' film, which earned $65 million in its opening weekend, Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies announced that there will be a sequel to the 2014 film.

The production teams behind the film announced on Sunday that 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' is already in the works, with an expected release date of June 3, 2016.

Platinum Dunes will again produce the film and with Michael Bay, while Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will write the script and be the executive producers for the upcoming movie.

However, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not Jonathan Liebesman will return to direct the film.

In a statement released by Paramount CEO and chairman Brad Grey, he said that the enthusiasm shown by moviegoers to the film is "everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for."

Grey added that after the first film was released, they were happy with the welcome it received.

"We are thrilled with this weekend's result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one," he added.

Additionally, Paramount Film Group's president Adam Goodman said it was a "daunting task" to bring "Turtles" into the silver screen because being fans of the movie, "we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before."

He added, that after seeing the how successful the first TMNT movie was, it ended as the fourth highest movie that opened in August in movie history, their expectations were exceeded and the team became even more excited to show moviegoers how the story of the Turtles continues.
