'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' New Cast News: Tyler Perry Tapped for Role in Sequel Film

It comes as a surprise to many TMNT fans that actor Tyler Perry will be joining the growing cast of the sequel to last year's 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' reboot.

Perry will be set to play Baxter Stockman, an evil scientist that was a reoccurring figure in the comics and television series.

"In previous iterations of the franchise, Stockman was responsible for the creation of the Mousers, machines meant to seek out and destroy sewer rats. The villainous Shredder learns of this invention and hires Stockman as his own scientist with the intent of using the Mousers to destroy Splinter, mentor to the Turtles," writes Variety.

While the 'Madea' actor may not be everyone's first choice to play in a major feature superhero flick, he's recently displayed his acting chops in last year's 'Gone Girl' which is probably responsible for his recent spike in popularity.

"Best known for his 'Tyler Perry Presents' films for which the multihyphenate acts as writer, producer, director and sometimes star, Perry has recently branched out to dramatic roles in other projects, and was last seen playing Ben Affleck's lawyer in Fox's "Gone Girl," writes Variety.

Megan Fox will be reprising her role as April O' Neil, while the movie has recently picked up actor Stephen Amell for the role of Casey Jones.

As it stands the movie is slated to arrive on June 3rd, 2016.
