'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' Casting News: 'The Wolverine' Actor Brian Tee Cast as Shredder
Casting developments are moving forward with the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2,' with the recasting of Tohoru Masamune's Shredder. The role will now be helmed by actor Brian Tee, who's most notable in roles such as 'The Wolverine', and 'The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift.'
On that note, Tee is also one of many newcomers joining the cast for this sequel.
"He'll join Megan Fox (April O'Neil), Will Arnett (Vern Fenwick), Stephen Amell (Casey Jones) and Tyler Perry (Baxter Stockman) in the Paramount sequel. Michael Bay will once again produce with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. David Green is set to direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec," writes Variety.
Shredder is an imperative villain in every iteration of the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' comic book, TV, and film.
"Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laid, the Shredder is the turtles' oldest foe, having debuted alongside Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael in 1984s 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' #1. The leader of the Foot Clan, Shredder is a master ninja who, in some iterations of the franchise, serves the trans-dimensional being known as Krang" writes Coming Soon.
The first film grossed more than $485 million at the worldwide box office. Michael Bay will also be back to produce the sequel with David Green as the director.
"The job is a huge win for the Green who, prior to 'Earth to Echo,' was known more for his short films including 'Dial M for Murder' and 'New Romance.' Paramount is typically careful about budgets and likes to work with directors who can make the most out of what they have to work with, as Green did on 'Echo,' which cost only $13 million to make," writes Variety.
'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2' premieres on June 3rd, 2016.
