'Teen Titans' TV Series Air Date: ‘Titans’ To Starting Shooting Pilot In 2015
New reports are saying that Turner Network Television, known as TNT, is hard at work on 'Titans', their upcoming television reboot, featuring the comic book superhero team Teen Titans. The new series has officially been confirmed and will begin shooting for the pilot next year.
News of TNT's 'Titans' first came out in September and since then, there wasn't much information released on the progress of the show. However, a fan decided to tweet Geoff Johns, the Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics, and asked for an update on what's happening with 'Titans'.
Johns replied with a simple tweet, saying "We shoot the pilot next year." He also followed it up with another tweet, this time sharing his excitement over one of the characters (Nightwing) appearing in the series. He wrote, "Long time coming to get Nightwing to live action...!"
'Titans' will chronicle the adventures of Batman's former sidekick Dick Grayson a.k.a. Nightwing, who has become a superhero in his own right. In order to save the world, Nightwing decides to form his own team of superheroes, forming a team with the likes of Starfire, Raven, Beastboy, and Cyborg.
While there has been no announcement in regards to an air date, based on the Johns' tweet, fans and interested viewers can expect 'Titans' to roll out either late 2015 or early 2016, according to Screen Rant.
However, the chances of the reboot being picked up or running for a long time are somewhat slim, as other shows similar concepts, such as 'Young Justice', usually end up getting canceled after a season or two.
There are also concerns over the right casting for the adolescent Titans heroes. There is also the hurdle of a crossover with adult heroes such as Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Aquaman and more, which has been a common theme in the shows and comic books featuring the Teen Titans. Also, some of these adult superheroes have already appeared in other television shows so adding more incarnations might serve to confuse viewers.
With limited news released to the masses, it remains to be seen how and if TNT will address these concerns.
Should TNT push through with 'Titans', the show will be one among many comic book-inspired shows that are currently making waves on television right now, such as The CW's 'Arrow' and 'The Flash', upcoming Syfy series 'Krypton' and CBS's upcoming 'Supergirl'.
