Taylor Swift News: Songstress Buys X-Rated Domains as Preventative Measure
Before anyone could try to tarnish her reputation online, pop star Taylor Swift and her team decided to buy TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult X-rated domains which could potentially hurt Swift's image if the sites were to fall into the wrong hands.
According to CNN Money, any .porn and .adult domain names will be available for the public starting June 1. Swift isn't the only person to take advantage of the opportunity. Microsoft has also already registered Office.porn and Office.adult.
These shrewd business moves can prove to be beneficial for those who want to keep their image clean and family friendly for computer users.
Steve Miholovich, SVP of marketing at Safenames told CNN Money, "People who have bad intentions are going to do what they're going to do and there's nothing to prevent that." However did go on to say that this move is very "responsible" in order to prevent any misconduct or harm to both viewer and buyer.
According to Fortune, this isn't the first time Swift has made decisions to protect herself and her work. Last month, the star decided to take pictures and upload them to Instagram before paparazzi, which were following her endlessly, could publish any of their work.
Last year the "Blank Space" singer also pulled her music off of the streaming service on Spotify, fearing that she was losing money on her songs by allowing anyone to listen to her music for free.
CNN Money reported, "In 2011, the nonprofit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers decided to expand the number of generic top-level domains, or gTLDs, such as .com and .net. There were 22 at that time and now there are over 547 new gTLDs on the Web, with new suffixes released every month."
