Taylor Swift News: '1989' Singer Demands Justice for Artists in the Music World
Taylor Swift has proven herself to be one of the biggest music stars in the world, and recently she challenged Apple, criticizing the company for its policies when it comes to its music streaming service.
24 hours after Swift put the music and technology giant on blast for not intending to pay artists during the first three months of Apple Music, the company changed its decision.
Apple announced the creation of Apple Music at their Worldwide Developers conference on June 8th.
While discussing all of the advantages of the service, Apple did not disclose the fact that during their three month free trial period, they would not be paying artists royalties for their songs.
When discovered, that information rubbed musicians the wrong way, of course, especially Swift.
She took to her Tumblr account to write an open letter to Apple on June 21st, which criticized its plans not to pay musicians for their work and even stating that she would not be allowing the service to use her platinum selling album, 1989.
"I'm sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service," stated Swift in her letter. "I'm not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company."
A day after her letter, the Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services for Apple, Eddy Cue, tweeted a response to her stating that Apple would be changing their royalty policy, even calling Swift personally to share the news with her according to Buzzfeed.
