Taylor Swift News: '1989' Singer Buys Adult & Hateful Web Domains

Taylor Swift seems to be extra cautious these days and wants to maintain her clean profile, and so the singer has acquired the rights to several pornographic website site names, to prevent anyone from using them inappropriately.

CNN Money reports that the .adult, .porn. and .sucks extensions tied to her name, as well as others, will become available to the general public after June 1 allowing them to create new websites. Currently, Swift and others who desire to ensure that their names are not used offensively are being allowed to takeover these domain names to prevent them from being used for adult-themed purposes or any other harmful intentions, according to CNN Money.

In fact, Microsoft, which is against its Microsoft Office brand being used to create websites like Office.porn or Office.adult, and has purchased those domain names.

Entertainment Weekly reports that even Swift has done the same thing by acquiring TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult. By acquiring these websites, the singer hopes to keep her name clean and, at the same time, prevent people with bad intentions from creating websites with these names.

According to Safenames senior vice president Steve Miholovich, "People who have bad intentions are going to do what they're going to do and there's nothing to prevent that."

Way back in 2011, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non-profit organiization, decided to add more generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like .net and .com. At that time, there were only 22 gTLDs, but currently there are more than 547 gTLDs available on the Internet.

According to ICANN, more gTLDs like .healthcare and .deals will facilitate Internet users so that they land on the right websites. In addition, it will also help businesses avail a unique address that will be easier to remember.

Businesses as well as celebrities like Swift would generally not want to buy a domain name like .sucks, however, they think that it is better than allowing someone to tarnish their reputation using a hate site. Someone hating Taylor Swift may possibly create a TaylorSwift.sucks site and post a lot of nasty things about her, which evidently, the singer does not want any part of.
