Gospel Singer Tasha Cobbs' Father Died Just Days After Winning Stellar Award for 'New Artist of The Year'
Just days after Gospel singer Tasha Cobbs won her first Stellar award for "New Artist of The Year," the singer is met with the tragic news of the sudden death of her father.
Popular Gospel singer/producer James Fortune posted on his social media Monday morning about the death of the father of fellow singer Cobbs.
"Please pray for ?@tashacobbs and family. Her father passed away suddenly just moments ago. We are praying for you sis! Love you!" he tweeted.
Cobbs did not make mention of her loss but she did thank her followers for their prayers and support. "Hey Family! Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers! They are felt! Love You Guys!" posted Cobbs.
32-year-old Cobbs released her sophomore eight-song album on EMI last year and her worshipful tunes, produced by multi-award-winning artist and producer VaShawn Mitchell gained the singer recognition throughout the gospel industry as she won her first Stellar Award over the weekend. The album featured popular song "Break Every Chain" as well as worship anthems, "Happy" and "Smile."
Cobbs is the only daughter of Bishop Fritz Cobbs and Lady Bertha Cobbs. She grew up surrounded by a God-fearing, musical family; so her love for God and for music came from her upbringing. The singer served her father Bishop Fritz for years at her home church. The singer ran the family's music ministry at Jesup New Life Minitries. In 2006 Cobbs relocated to Atlanta where she began three years worth of touring America with Pastor William H. Murphy III and his Dream Center Church.
Before her success in the Gospel industry, the psalmist launched a solo career with her album, Smile, on her own label Tasha Cobbs Ministries.
The devastating news of her father's death is being met with lots of support from Gospel artists and fans all over social media.
Youth worship leader JJ Hairston wrote "Definitely praying for sis ?@tashacobbs in the sudden loss of your father. Love you."
Others postied, "PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! RIP BISHOP COBBS. HE WAS SUCH A BLESSING..." and "May the Comforter be with you and your family during these times.."
