'Tangled' New Disney Series News: Movie Spin Off Coming Hits the Small Screen in 2017

Disney's Tangled was one of the company's biggest animated hits before Frozen. The film, which was released in 2010, told the story of a modern version of Rapunzel, who was voiced by Mandy More, and her captive, Flynn Ryder, who was voiced by Zachary Levi.

For those who may not know, Flynn was also the most wanted bandit in the kingdom.

Now, Disney has announced that it plans to bring the animated musical to viewers on the small screen with a series that is set to begin in 2017.

The series does not yet have a precise premiere date, but follows the 2012 short, Tangled Ever After.

The events of the show will take place between those of the original movie and the short film.

In the show, Rapunzel becomes acquainted with her parents as well as the citizens of her kingdom, Corona.

According to the official description of the series, the show will focus on "her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world [which] drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King, who after missing out on Rapunzel's youth must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman."

The best news about the project may be that besides the fact that Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will both be returning to reprise their roles, most of the creative team from the film will be involved in the series as well as the film's composer and lyricist.
