With "Switched at Birth" season 5 is set to hit the small screen in the second quarter of 2016, the forthcoming fifth installment is also set to answer questions from the series' season 4.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 is going to unveil what the call in season 4 was all about, according to series creator Lizzy Weiss. In her interview with The Wrap, Weiss said that not everything was fleshed out, but there was a general plan. She added that they had had a million ideas for what the cliffhanger would have been and they might still use a couple of them.

In "Switched at Birth" season 4, Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) received a telephone call.

According to Christian Today, it is speculated that the ladies had been called back home, as John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) were having a divorce. In fact, an emergency involving Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily's (Rachel Shenton) baby is also a possible issue behind the call.

In the same interview with The Wrap, Weiss explained what waits for Toby and Lily now that their baby was here. She said that the baby had been a big part of the season that they had touched upon a bunch of times and had been part of the larger series conversation about difference, adding that it was just another strand of difference.

Weiss also mentioned that ending that particular story arc had been ended while fans were just starting the journey. For Weiss, that was a truly beautiful moment and one of her favorites, not just in the episode, but in the series.

Along with a "Switched at Birth" photo, Weiss wrote on Twitter that "Switched at Birth" season 5 is set to return in April.
