Surface Studio Release Date, Specs, Price News: Pre-Order Starts ‘TrueScale’ Desktop Replacement Available
The Microsoft Surface Studio release date is expected to be in Christmas, but it won't be widely rolled out until early next year. Nevertheless, consumers can now start pre-ordering on the company website for a price of $2,999.
The Surface Pro 4 is expected to replace the laptop, while the Surface Studio is hoped to finally put the desktop to bed.
The 28-inch touchscreen display is just 13mm thick, with a ratio display of 3:2 and resolution that trumps 4K. For instance, CNET reported, native 4K only has 8.3 million pixels compared to Surface Studio of 13.5 million pixels.
Below are the specs of the Surface Studio:
- Intel quad-core 6th generation processors
- NVIDIA GeForce GPU up to 4GB
- 8GB or 16 GB of RAM
- Up to 2TB of storage
- 1080p front camera (infrared)
- Dolby Audio Premium 2.1 speakers
There are also some accessories and peripherals and not all of them are free. For instance, there's the Surface Pen and the Surface Dial. The Pen has 1,024 pressure points with interchangeable tips. It's touted to last a whole year long without changing the battery.
The Surface Dial, meanwhile, is entirely new. Microsoft claimed that it's more intuitive and responsive when scrolling, zooming and navigating through the desktop. It will cost another $100 on top of the Surface Studio price, however, but it's a perfect complement for digital artists.
More than the Surface Studio specs, there's also what Microsoft calls "zero-gravity hinge," which it described as the technology that allows you to fold down monitor at a 20-degree angle.
