'Surface Pro 4' Release Date Rumors: Device May Arrive on Oct. 4 With Major Updates

Latest rumors hint that Microsoft's upcoming Surface Pro 4 laplet may be a major upgrade over its predecessor Surface Pro 3, which was released last year. Although the Redmond, Washington-based tech giant is still mum regarding the device as well as its release date, rumors suggest that it may be unveiled on Oct. 4.

IB Times reports that the recent tweets from Tom Warren, senior editor with The Verge, suggest that the Surface Pro 4 will not feature Intel Core M chips. The device is expected to sport a larger display. It is also expected that the upcoming laplet will to be thinner and lighter compared to the Surface Pro 3.

Moreover, rumors suggest that the Surface Pro 4 will have a different look from its predecessor model. Previous rumors, however, hinted that the form factor of the Surface Pro 4 will be identical to that of the Surface Pro 3. The upcoming model is also expected to support the docking station of the SP3.

Warren has claimed that the Surface Pro 4 will be an additional upgrade over the Surface Pro 3, with rumors hinting that the device will be powered by the advanced Skylake chips. The Verge senior editor also tweeted that the Surface Pro 4 may not incorporate the latest USB Type-C connector. Instead, the device may feature USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 ports.

According to Design & Trens, as Warren has talked about "definitely wait for the 4. October" in one of his tweets, speculations are rife that the Surface Pro 4 may come on Oct. 4. The device is also expected to come pre-installed with Windows 10.

While Warren has revealed a lot of details about the upcoming Surface Pro 4, he has not cited any a concrete source for his claims.

Meanwhile, Yibada reports that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 may come in two display variants of 12 inches and 14 inches. As the Skylake chip is known to be highly power efficient, it can deliver longer battery backup compared to what the Surface Pro 3 is able to offer. The Surface Pro 4 will be available in RAM variants of up to 16 GB. The maximum internal storage available on the Surface Pro 4 will be 1 TB.
