'Supergirl' News: Jenna Dewan-Tatum Casted as Lucy Lane
CBS plans on taking there slice of the pie in the recent insurgence of superhero material with their upcoming 'Supergirl' series starring Melissa Benoist as the titular Kara Zor-El.
Recent news has suggested that the show set to appear in the fall has recruited actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum to play the role of Lucy Lane. The character is described as "brash, funny and beautiful as her older sister Lois Lane. Lucy is strong, smart and successful in her own right. She's got a history with Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and she's come to town to right a previous wrong," by THR.
The history they describe is believed to be a romantic one if the show plans on following comic book canon. This should identify Lucy as an enemy for Kara in her normal life outside of being a superhero, or for at least the beginning of the series.
This will mark the first live action representation of Lucy Lane since the CW's 'Smallville' in which actress Peyton List portrayed the character. She has since moved on to 'The Flash' in which she plays Lisa Snart.
It will also mark Dewan's return to a reoccurring television role in quite some time.
"For Dewan-Tatum, the casting marks her return to the small screen following a guest gig on The Mindy Project and starring turn on Lifetime's Witches of East End. The news comes days after the Step Up actress' husband, Channing Tatum, also signed on to star in a comic book property: Marvel's X-Men spinoff movie, Gambit, in which he plays the title character of a mutant who harnesses kinetic energy," writes THR.
'Supergirl' plans on premiering October 26 on CBS.
