'Supergirl' Season 1 News: Cast Speaks On Series' Pressure
The new CBS show 'Supergirl' arrives later this year with a huge amount of pressure surrounding it with the recent scrutiny of the trailer and leaked pilot.
In an interview with IGN, the actors comment on the show, how it is working on such a project, and how they believe fans will receive it.
"I think we're just as excited to work on it and create it," 'Supergirl' actress Mellissa Benoist states. "There's a lot of pressure, but the good kind to just blow everyone out of the water and inspire some people."
Actor Mechad Brooks also responds on how it feels to bring this DC property to television.
"I'm ecstatic, as we all are," he says. "It's a dream come true but at the same time, it's also our job so we have to respect the world we're stepping into but also bring our own voice to it. That's exciting, doing that juggling act and trying to have a good time and not be stressed out about it."
In the trailer and synopsis for the show, it is implied that Kara is only just revealing her superpowers to the world and deciding to take on the role of Supergirl at age 24. Benoist explains:
"There are numerous reasons that you'll discover throughout the show. Also I think part of her thinks Earth already had a hero. It's been 24 years and she comes to Earth and Superman, who was a baby then, is now grown and is Earth's hero and she kind of feels like she won't live up to what he has created for himself."
'Supergirl' plans to arrive to CBS on October 26. The show's pilot is also scheduled to air at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, along with a panel.
