'Supergirl' New Series News: 'The Flash' Producer Comments on Possible Crossover Episode
Last week's first trailer of CBS's 'Supergirl' was met with some less than favorable feedback, due to its gimmicky "girl-power" feel. The studio has since released a more centralized trailer that capitalizes on Kara Zor-El as an actual superhero, however it is still unbeknownst how well the show will fair.
Upon news of Greg Berlanti, producer for CW's 'Arrow' and 'The Flash,' heading the series, it was suspected that fans could expect some crossovers regarding the titular DC heroes. This has yet to be confirmed, but it was recently teased in a cover for Variety that features Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist together in costume.
Berlanti released this statement on a possible crossover:
"The network has said publicly at this point they're going to keep her to themselves. I always approach the shows as a fan first, so I would love to see (a crossover). I think in success, all things are possible. But there's a lot that would have to happen before everybody might say yes to that."
Fans also need to take into account that both shows seem like they will adopt very different tones. If they don't currently have crossing over in mind, there is more chance for the series to run away from each other.
Here's the synopsis for 'Supergirl':
"Hailing from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions (who also produce the hit DC Comics series 'Arrow' and 'The Flash' for The CW), 'Supergirl' is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant, who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen, as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw, head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime."
'Supergirl' is set to premiere in November on Mondays.
