'Super Mario Run' Release Date, Price News: Nintendo To Release Game On December 15; No Offline Mode?

The good news is "Super Mario Run" will come out on Dec. 15. The bad news is you need an active Internet connection in order to play.

But game producer Shigeru Miyamoto said they have a very valid reason why they decided to hook "Super Mario Run" with the Internet. Unlike the other titles dedicated for the Wii U or other Nintendo consoles, this game will be launched in 150 countries, on Android and iOS and that makes it vulnerable to piracy.

"For us, we view our software as being a very important asset for us," he told Mashable. "And also for consumers who are purchasing the game, we want to make sure that we're able to offer it to them in a way that the software is secure, and that they're able to play it in a stable environment."

He said an active Internet would ensure they leverage the three of the "Super Mario Run" modes and that they function seamlessly together.

During the same interview, Miyamoto shared the news about "Super Mario Run" not being the first game that they will introduce in mobile. For instance, he said they are also working on bringing "Animal Crossing" to iOS or Android.

For the price, If you want the full experience, you will have to shell out $9.99 through an in-app purchase after the "Super Mario Run" release date.

In related news, revenue projects for "Super Mario Run" are optimistic even with the active connection requirement. Analysts are seeing a little over $71 million in revenues for the first month. For comparison, "Candy Crush Soda Saga" earned $16 million while "Clash Royale" earned $107 million. "Pokemon Go," however, took home about $143 million the first month.
