'Suicide Squad' Release Date, Cast News: Joel Kinnaman To Play Rick Flag in Upcoming Film

Amidst all the rumors and confusion revolving the casting of Rick Flag in 'Suicide Squad', Joel Kinnaman's name has been confirmed for the role.

"Kinnaman is known for his role on AMC series 'The Killing', which wrapped up its run with a fourth season on Netflix in 2014. He'll next be seen opposite Liam Neeson in WB's 'Run All Night' and opposite Hardy in 'Child 44', writes The Wrap.

Kinnaman also recently played the lead in the new 'Robocop' movie.

With the actor's solid track record, most fans are content with the casting, but most still wonder how the movie would've turned out with the character's original casting.

Actor Tom Hardy was first to helm the role, before it was up for grabs with Jake Gyllenhal and a host of other actors.

"Hardy was forced to exit the project due to scheduling issues with Alejandro González Iñárritu's 'The Revenant', which is currently in production, as well as upcoming promotional duties for WB's 'Mad Max: Fury Road', which comes out on May 15. 'Suicide Squad' is expected to start production in April," writes The Wrap.

Kinnaman will now officially star beside Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Jared Leto as the Joker. Jesse Eisenberg and Viola Davis are also being considered for some pending roles.

David Ayer's 'Suicide Squad' will release on August 5th, 2016.
