'Suicide Squad’ New Cast News, Rumors: ‘True Blood’ Star Joe Manganiello to Play Slade Wilson - Deathstroke

DC fans will be happy to learn that a new actor will be joining the cast of David Ayer's live-action film adaptation of 'Suicide Squad.' If speculations turn out to be true, fans will be seeing Joe Manganiello portraying the character of Deathstroke in the upcoming movie.

A recent report by Screenrant says that The Latino-Review writer Umberto Gonzales recently posted that Joe Manganiello, who starred in 'True Blood,' is being targeted to portray the character of Slade Wilson alias Deathstroke in the upcoming movie. Umberto has also given a description of the costume, role and skills of Deathstroke in 'Suicide Squad.'

In addition, his post also says that Jason Clarke was reported to get the role of Deathstroke, but he turned down the offer owing to scheduling conflicts. In addition, there were rumors that 'RoboCop' star Joel Kinnaman may be appearing as Deathstroke in the upcoming movie, but the producers offered him the role of Rick Flag instead. As a result, Manganeillo is the only front-runner for the role. Meanwhile, Fashion&Style claimed that Manganeillo is likely to "drop out" from Fox's upcoming horror-comedy TV series 'Scream Queens' for the film.

According to Screenrant, "Deathstroke will be using both blades and bullets in the field - rumored to take down the entire Squad all on his own." The entertainment website goes on to add Deathstroke will have both his eyes in the film, which will be a departure from the character's typical appearance and his suit will be based on actual U.S. military gear.

In 'Suicide Squad," Deathstroke will be playing a "hired gun" for the antagonist Antiphon, who is the leader of a terrorist organization called "Onlsaught". According to Screenrant, Antiphon will be sporting a badly burned body, and have only one leg.

Earlier, there were reports that Ed Harris would be portraying the character, but he quickly dealt with the rumors, saying, "I don't know anything about that." He further said, "Joel mentioned that there was something he wanted me to look at, or think about doing, but I don't know if that was it or not."

A part of the DC Cinematic Universe, 'Suicide Squad' scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
