'Suicide Squad' New Cast News: Actor Jay Hernandez Tapped for Role as El Diablo, Chato Santana

According to The Wrap, Jay Hernandez is set to join the cast of the upcoming Warner Bros. film Suicide Squad.

Before it was official, Latino-Review's El Mayimbe posted a photo collage of Hernandez and images from the Suicide Squad comics on Instagram, hinting that Hernandez would have a role.

Since the announcement, fans of the comics and avid followers of the film's progress are already speculating what role Hernandez will play. The most common speculation is that Hernandez will play a cell mate of The Joker, who is to be played by Jared Leto. The cell mate is still unknown but sources at Cinema Blend are thinking Hernandez will play the role of El Diablo, or Chato Santana. How big the role will be in the film or whether or not Hernandez will even play a part of the character is still uncertain.

The cast of this film is well underway with many stars playing big roles in the film. Along with Jared Leto, Will Smith will play Deadshot, Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Cara Delevigne as Enchantress. Other people rumored to be in the film are Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, according to Hollywood Life.

Hernandez is most known for his role in Friday Night Lights. He also has appeared in films Crazy/Beautiful, World Trade Center and TV shows Nashville, Last Resort, and Gang-Related.

The film will be directed by Ayer, who also wrote "The New 52" version of the classic comic series. Suicide Squad will begin production in April and it is set to release in theaters on August 5, 2016.
