'Suicide Squad' Movie News: Batman to Appear in Upcoming Villain Based Film?
In the midst of rumors surrounding the awaited "Suicide Squad" movie, it has been reported that none other than Ben Affleck's Batman will make an appearance as a centerpiece character.
The news come from Forbes, and through leaked news on the film's plot, it is believed that The Joker will come face to face with the caped crusader, prompting a Batman solo film that centers around the two.
"This would set up the Joker as a possible/likely antagonist in the solo Batman movie that's planned in the next few years, and which I've heard will take some inspiration from Frank Miller's comic book series The Dark Knight Returns - the third issue of which is a story about Batman facing off against an escaped Joker. I'm also told that Gotham City Police Commissioner Ellen Yindel (who replaces James Gordon during the comic book story) is planned for inclusion in the film," writes Forbes.
With the project not even in production yet, and the uncertainty of rewrites and the recent recasting of Rick Flagg's character, there is no concrete facts on what is bound to happen. However the kind of attention the superhero's appearance could bring to the movie would greatly bolster it's appeal.
"Suicide Squad" is comprised of some fairly obscure comic book characters that even fans of the franchise may not be so familiar with. It will definitely not sell itself on the name or any character appearances. Batman's name could possibly fill seats.
"And one of the best added-value moves for Warner is to give audiences an added glimpse of Ben Affleck's Batman, whom we'll of course be introduced to earlier in 2016 when he makes his grand cinematic entrance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That everybody's favorite dark detective will make some sort of appearance in the film - be it simply on Waller's collection of news and surveillance footage, in a brief cameo in-story, or via more substantial sequence(s) - seems inevitable," writes Forbes.
At least this is something the studio will definitely consider.
