'Suicide Squad' Movie Cast News, Rumors: Viola Davis Talks About Her Amanda Waller Role

'Suicide Squad' actress Viola Davis recently addressed the reports regarding her upcoming role as antihero Amanda Waller in the upcoming blockbuster film.

"I'm fascinated by [Waller]," said Davis to Nerd Report in an interview, where she promoted her latest film 'Blackhat'.

"I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She's this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I'm excited to pick up a gun."

Previously, it was rumored that talk show host/actress Oprah Winfrey and 'The Help' star Octavia Spencer would possibly play the role of Waller before the official announcement regarding Davis' casting was finally revealed.

"Not yet," said Davis in regards to whether or not she began researching her role by reading comic books that featured her enigmatic character.

"I have not started reading them yet. I've read up about her but I'm working out my schedule for 'Suicide Squad'."

In addition to DC Comic books, Davis' character Waller has previously appeared in other forms of entertainment for DC including cartoons, videogames and live action series such 'Justice League Unlimited', 'Young Justice', 'Smallville', 'Arrow', 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies' and 'Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate' to name a few.

The Suicide group is made up of various supervillains that Justice League members (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc...) have faced individually or as a collective unit throughout DC Comics history like the Joker and Deadshot.

The new 'Suicide Squad' film stars Jared Leto (the Joker), Will Smith (Deadshot), Tom Hardy (Rick Flag), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).

The 'Suicide Squad' film is expected to arrive in movie theaters on August 5, 2016.
