‘Suicide Squad’ Cast: Star Jared Leto Poised For His Take On The Joker

Jared Leto seems to be confident in his performance on the cast of David Ayer's upcoming film "Suicide Squad."

Leto is set to play the role of The Joker, one of the most iconic villains in the DC Comics history. The actor took to Instagram to share a photo of Jack Nicholson's Joker from the 1989 "Batman" and Heath Ledger's Joker from 2008s "The Dark Knight."

The photo was in black-and-white and had an overset text, saying "Don't worry Leto will make us proud."

In the caption, Leto wrote, "Great work @gaunted! Was wondering who made it! Amazing. I see a few thought it was me but it wasn't. Just thought it was clever sweet + fun."

Over all Leto's photo got more than 254,000 likes and more than 7,000 comments from fans.

Aside from his modern take on The Joker - his green hair, bejeweled teeth, and tattooed body - Leto described his passion for his work.

In his interview with Empire, Leto said that there had been definitely period of detachment and he had taken a pretty deep dive. For Leto, it had been a unique opportunity and he could not have imagined doing it another way.

It is assumed that Leto posted his photo for Nicholson and Ledger to be proud of him, being the latest actor to wear the shoes of Gotham's Clown Prince.

However, The Joker's exact role in "Suicide Squad" remains a mystery until now, according to Cinema Blend.

While some reports say that the villain is set to be a Hannibal Lecter-type figure, others speculate that The Joker is the DC counterpart of Marvel's Thanos.

Meanwhile, Ayer's "Suicide Squad" follows the titular team of supervillains under the custody of the United States government, ordered to accomplish high-risk tasks to compensate for their redemption.

Implanted within them are nanobombs, which are small bombs, so that they will not make any attempt to escape or cause trouble.

Along with Leto, Smith, Robbie, and Hernandez, "Suicide Squad" also stars Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Common, Scott Eastwood, Adam Beach, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Cara Delevigne, and Jai Courtney, among others.

Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States with a release date on Aug. 5, 2016.
