'Suicide Squad' Cast News, Release Date: 'The Help' Actress to Play Amanda Waller

Recent reports have let fans in on the casting of the upcoming DC movie, 'Suicide Squad'. Out of all the centerpiece characters, the casting for Amanda Waller is taking the most time and seems to at the center of most rumors.

However, fans now know the actress projected to take on the role in the film, 'The Help' star, Viola Davis.

In an interview with Nerd Report, the actress stated:

"I'm fascinated by her [Amanda Waller]. I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She's this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I'm excited to pick up a gun."

She also added that she hasn't started reading any of the comic books for research yet. She still has yet to work out her schedule for the movie.

Viola Davis currently has obligations on her new ABC show, 'How to Get Away With Murder'.

"David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) is directing Suicide Squad, which also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as Joker, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Jai Courtney as Boomerang," IGN writes.

If the actress indeed fills the role, she'll have the responsibility along side most of the cast to fully adapt characters that have never seen the big screen before.

Amanda Waller has only appeared on the small screen as either an animated character, or recently in live action on CW's 'Arrow'. On a side note, the 'Arrow' character is played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, former 'Spartacus' actress.

As it stands, 'Suicide Squad' is set to release onto the big screen next year in 2016.
