'Suicide Squad' Cast News: Jared Leto's Joker Portrayal said to Rival the Late Heath Ledger's

Jared Leto's portrayal of The Joker is perhaps the most anticipated aspect of the 'Suicide Squad' movie.

He's been quoted saying that he plans to redefine the role, however Heath Ledger's portrayal of the character is still very much embedded in the minds of fans of Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight.'

While we've received a full picture of Leto in costume, it is still very hard to say how the Academy Award winning actor will bring the villain to life. It is definitely apparent that he'll be much different than any Joker that we've seen on screen.

Latino Review's El Mayimbe claims to have confirmation from insiders that Leto's portrayal will in fact surpass that of Ledger's. He states:

"Sources are telling me that Jared Leto is going all out for his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad & that he is staying in character behind the scenes on set. I'm also told his performance will rival if not surpass Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker."

This are pretty big words to back up, but Leto's dedication and overall enthusiasm to the role makes this seem possible.

He did previously state that he wanted to make the character something of his own.

"He wants to make the character completely his own. He knows that this role may be his most difficult ever, but he is confident that he will make his version of the Joker the best. This Joker will be more cerebral and comedic than what we have seen before, nobody should expect a copycat version. It's going to be awesome!" states an insider from Hollywood Life.

Leto will be joined by Adam Beach as Slipknot; Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang; Cara Delevingne as Enchantress; Karen Fukuhara as Katana; Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn; Will Smith as Deadshot; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc; and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

'Suicide Squad' is slated for release on August 5, 2016.
