"Steven Universe" season 2 ended with an episode that aired last January 26 and everybody thought it was only up for a season break. Viewers got it wrong.

On his Twitter account, "Steven Universe" writer Matt Burnett recently revealed that the episode airing this coming June 3, titled "Summer of Steven," will mark the premiere of a brand new season for the series.

Prior to Burnett's confirmation, it was revealed that "Steven Universe" had been renewed for its 4^th and 5^th seasons on Cartoon Network.

"Steven Universe" season 3 will see the return of the Malachite, who was caught up in the hate-fusion sea. It was revealed that while trapped in the sea, she was able to develop new powers that will fit her new image.

Season 3 will also introduce a new villain, Yellow Diamond. She will set foot on planet Earth to look for Peridot, who happens to be Steven's ally.

Spoilers about the upcoming season tease the mysterious appearance of Lion, who is believed to be either Bismuth or Rose Quartz. Some reports also say that it will focus on the history of Pearl and explore the Homeworld---the place where diverse gems were born. The backstory of Pearl has not been delved into in the previous seasons, so there are speculations that Pearl is her own gem and may be partly Rose Quartz and party White Diamond.

The third season will pick up right where the last episode of season 2 left off, where Peridot attempted to merge with Garnet.

"Steven Universe" season 3 will premiere weekly episodes starting June to August 2016 on Cartoon Network.
