Steve Jobs Biopic Movie News, Cast Rumors: Michael Fassbender To Play Apple Co-Founder

Universal Pictures has taken over the production and creation of the upcoming movie featuring the life of Apple founder Steve Jobs after it was dropped by Sony Pictures.

Sony Pictures passed on from the Jobs biopic less than a week ago, which Universal Pictures has now picked. Universal will be collaborating with director Danny Boyle, writer Aaron Sorkin and producers Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon, and Guymon Casady.

A studio spokesman confirmed the deal to Hollywood Reporter, and sources have said that the project is touting a $30 million price tag.

Aside from the change of studios, another big change or addition is the casting of 'X-Men' actor Michael Fassbender in the role of Steve Jobs.

However, this is not the first major change the film has undergone. Fassbender's casting in the role follows the withdrawal of 'Batman' actor Christian Bale earlier this month, and placing Boyle in the director's chair comes after David Fincher quit the project earlier this year.

Seth Rogen, who will be appearing opposite Fassbender, expressed his desire to play the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Rogen talked to IGN and said that deals with the actors and actresses have not yet been made since they were still closing the deal with the studio.

"There's a lot that needs to happen between now and then," he said, "If that movie gets made, I think there's a good chance that I will be in it."

The upcoming Jobs biopic has been in development for two years. It is based on the 2011 biography written by Walter Isaacson titled 'Steve Jobs'. The official title for the movie has not been confirmed and an estimated release date has not been announced.

Another Jobs film titled 'Jobs' was released in 2013. It was directed by Joshua Michael Stern and starred Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs.
