'Static Shock' Series News: Jaden Smith Rumored to Star in New Superhero Role

Recent rumors have pointed to actor Jaden Smith to be the frontrunner for the role of Static Shock in Warner Bros. upcoming digital series.

This would make a third member member of the Smith family to star in a major DC enterprise, as his father, Will Smith has recently been casted as Deadshot in 'Suicide Squad,' and his mother, Jada Pinkett Smith just ended her run on Fox's 'Gotham' as Fish Mooney.

The news came from the mouth of Tyler James Williams in a recent interview with Flicks and the City, where he mistakenly seemed to spill the beans.

"There aren't many young black comic book superheroes," Williams stated. "It's great to see Static Shock is happening with Jaden."

The claim has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros., but a 'Static Shock' series is definitely in the works.

"The new live-action series is being produced by Blue Ribbon Content, a new digital division of Warner Bros. Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin is executive producing. Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed when or where the Static Shock digital series will air," writes Slash Film.

Smith himself seems to be a huge DC fan, as his Batman prom costume recently went viral. Many fans feel he'll be perfect for the role as the titular superhero.

"Static is the nom de guerre of Virgil Hawkins, a geeky inner-city teen who gains electromagnetic powers after being exposed to a strange mutagenic gas. The character made his comic book debut in 1993 as part of the launch of DC imprint Milestone. (Coincidentally, Will Smith's character had a framed copy of Static #1 on his wall on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.) Static also had his own animated WB show, Static Shock, which ran from 2000 to 2004," writes Slash Film.
