'State of Affairs' Season 1 News, Rumors: NBC Looking to Cancel Series Due to Poor Ratings?
NBC officials are reportedly worried about one of their biggest shows, State of Affairs, which is rumored to soon be joining the list of shows to be cancelled in 2015.
Robert Greenbalt, NBC Entertainment chairman, expressed his disappointment at the performance of the show and the inability to understand the cause of the failure of the show.
"I'm disappointed in what it's been doing [ratings-wise] the last couple of weeks," he said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, "It's a show that I think is a really fine show, so I'm scratching my head a little bit about why we can't get more people to be there for it."
Roberet Greenblatt also elaborated, "The show's serialized nature may make it difficult for new viewers to jump in. State of Affairs also suffered when it lost The Voice as a lead-in".
According to a detailed analysis done by the Variety, "State of Affairs was down half a ratings point week to week and 0.3 below its previous nadir set Nov. 24 with its second episode. Its lead-in this week, a repeat 'Saturday Night Live' Christmas special, did a 1.6 in the demo in the 9:30 pm half-hour, a significant 43% lower than last week's 'Voice' (2.8).
The NBC show, premiered in November, 2014, follows the feisty CIA agent Charleston Tucker (Katherine Heigl) as she lives her life as the Presdient's daily briefer by the day and partygoer by the night. Created by Joe Carnahan and featuring Adam Kaufman and Alfre Woodard, the series marks Heigl's first major TV role since her Grey's Anatomy exit in 2010.
Although NBC could have more issues this year, it is not yet clear whether State of Affairs will join the doomed list of cancelled shows this year. The show is reportedly hanging by a thread, yet, no official statement has been made in regard to its cancellation.
